Patience Lost

Saw the mercurial Ryan Adams last night at The Moore Theatre. I was looking forward to this show. He writes excellent alt-country songs, and there's a certain melancholy to them that one can relate to. But the man has a huge ego, is a drunk, and in concert (by reputation) is an asshole. Try yelling out, "Summer of '69" (by Bryan Adams) at a show and see what happens. That is, if he shows up. His last two Seattle appearances were cancelled. Anyway, the show started on a good note. A piano and a chair next to two guitars for his solo gig. The lights were dim, and it set the mood. Some good songs and a couple of good jokes. But his asides wore thin and were distracting from what should have been a masterful show. About an hour into it, Lisa and I left (we weren't the first; people were leaving here and there, exasperated).

As of this morning, I couldn't find a review of the show. But I did post the following at this blog

Beautiful songs, talented guy. But the man doesn't have any respect for the audience. After an hour -- half of which wasted between songs of him drinking, lighting up, talking to his sound guy and roadie, and trying to figure out his set list -- I ran out of patience. My wife and I left the show and got a drink. I half expected Adams to stumble into the bar a few minutes later.

That's probably the last one of his shows I'll go to. I'll continue to buy the music because it's so good. But I'll picture someone else singing.

UPDATE: This isn't a review from an official paper or anything, but it paints an accurate picture.

Sayonara, Sonics

Goldy has a good idea here, with regards to the Sonics trying to strongarm Seattle. I say fuck 'em and the NBA (or as I call it, The No Defense, One on One, Ballhog Crybabies, Screw Team Play Association).
