How 'bout a compromise?

Just heard the news that a judge ruled that reciting the Pledge Of Allegiance in public schools is unconstitutional. It has to do with the "under God" clause that was inserted into the pledge years after the original was created. I'm torn here. On the one hand, I agree that the "under God" clause shouldn't be in the pledge, because if this is truly a country that has an implicit credo to respect the religious beliefs of its citizens, then those those two words violate that credo. On the other hand, public schools is under the jurisdiction of the federal government, and if you attend public school, then you are especially obligated to recite that pledge. I'm not going to be a stickler for my leftist beliefs here. Maybe those who object to the "under God" clause can just insert their diety of choice after "under".

Maybe senility is kicking in early, but I'd like to note that I don't remember reciting the pledge of allegiance when I attended Catholic high school.
